Frequent Quarrel, Lover Couples in Ukraine Agree to Handcuffs Together

Jakarta - A couple in Ukraine handcuffs their hands together for three months to repair their on-going relationship and document their experiences on social media.

Online auto salesman Alexandr Kudlay, 33, and his girlfriend and beauty expert Viktoria Pustovitova, 28, started what they call the "experiment" on Valentine's Day and have since garnered thousands of followers on Instagram.

"In terms of physical comfort, as the days go by, we are getting used to it. The longer it is getting easier," said Kudlay in their apartment in the eastern city of Kharkiv.

Kudlay got the idea after Pustovitova said she wanted to break up with him.

We used to break up once or twice a week. One time when we quarreled, Vika once again said that we should break up, I replied: 'Then I will tie you to myself', "said Kudlay.

Pustovitova initially rejected her boyfriend's crazy idea and hung up on her the first time she heard about it, but eventually Pustovitova changed her mind. After almost a month of walking, they no longer have a personal space and have been doing activities together, from grocery shopping to smoking breaks.

"I decided it was going to be an interesting experience for me, one that would bring better emotions into my life that I had never experienced before," said Pustovitova.

"I love him, so I decided to do it," said Pustovitova, explaining the reasons why she wanted to be handcuffed together.

Now the lovebirds are uploading photos of the two of them on Instagram complete with information that emphasizes the importance of mutual respect and understanding. They were also invited to a talk show on Ukrainian television.

Some tensions are frequent, but the couple say they have found new ways of dealing with disagreements, the couple said.

"The fighting between us doesn't go away, we keep fighting. But when we get near a dead end and there is no understanding between us, we just stop talking rather than pack up our things and leave," said Kudlay.

The responses of those who saw their actions ranged from praise to skepticism, and some were curious about what it was like to live together with handcuffed hands.

One of the questions that most people are curious about is how the couple went to the toilet handcuffed. "One has to wait outside with the other hand in the bathroom. We take turns showering," said the couple.
